Short version: your colors stay on your Mac.

What Dabbit stores

Your picks, palettes, formats and settings are kept locally, in your Library folder. There is no account and no sync.

What leaves your Mac

  • Update checks. The app fetches dabbit.app/appcast.xml to see if a newer version exists. Sparkle, the updater, sends the app version and macOS version with that request and nothing else.
  • License validation. When you enter a license key, it is checked against Polar, our payment provider, and re-checked periodically. The key and a device identifier are sent; your colors are not.

The Figma plugin

The plugin talks to the Dabbit app over localhost on your own machine. No server sits in between, and Figma's network permission for the plugin is limited to that address.

Screen Recording

The loupe reads pixels from your screen while you pick, which macOS gates behind Screen Recording permission. Dabbit reads only while the picker is open and keeps nothing but the color you choose. If you prefer, use Apple's built-in sampler, which needs no permission.
